Heckmondwike Bus Station
Thank you…
Recently, we were pleased to be invited to Heckmondwike Bus Station ahead of its public opening for a private walk-through and tour. It was a valuable opportunity to explore the layout, assess the new accessibility features, and provide direct feedback to Erica Ward and the team from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) on further improvements that can still be made.
The bus station was commissioned and built by Kirklees Council and will now become part of the newly branded Weaver transport network, managed by WYCA. Photos from the visit show our group touring the new waiting room and external bus stands.
We’re committed to building strong working links with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and look forward to continuing our collaboration to improve accessibility at this site and other transport hubs across Kirklees.
A big thank you to everyone who attended on our behalf — Mark, Sam, David, Mark, Janine, Martin, Kath, Conrad, Stan, Terry, Carol, Devon, Steven, Alison, Ian and not forgetting our wonderful guide dogs Annie, Reg and Viking. Your presence in such numbers shows just how much this project matters to our community. Thanks to each of you for helping us stay proactive and ensuring that accessibility remains at the heart of what we do.
As an organisation, we are also actively involved in the redevelopment of Huddersfield and Dewsbury train stations, as well as Dewsbury and Huddersfield bus stations. Our members have been spending time at these sites, reviewing features and giving feedback to help shape spaces that are truly accessible and user-friendly for people with visual impairments.
