Replacing Equipment for People with Visual Impairment in Kirklees
If you live in the Kirklees area and have a visual impairment, you may be eligible for support in replacing essential mobility and assistive equipment that has been lost, damaged, or has become worn out.
This service is for like-for-like replacements of equipment previously provided or authorised by the Sensory Team or Sensory Rehabilitation Team at Kirklees Council. This includes items such as white canes, liquid level indicators and other specialist tools that support independent living.
How to Request a Replacement
The fastest and most reliable way to replace your equipment is through Medequip, the council’s dedicated equipment service.
You can get in touch in the following ways:
Website: www.medequip-uk.com
Phone: 01484 728970
In Person: Visit the Medequip Community Equipment Service at Unit 4 Armytage Road, Brighouse, HD6 1QF
Service users and their families are welcome to visit the depot for face-to-face assistance and advice.
For Equipment You’ve Never Had Before
If you need to enquire about equipment that hasn’t been ordered for you before, or if you have general questions about available support, please contact the ROVI team at rovi@kirklees.gov.uk. This email is for general enquiries and not for new referrals.
Additional Support from Outlookers
Outlookers also holds a small stock of replacement items, including tactile bump-on stickers, white walking sticks, mobility canes, and replacement cane tips. You can contact them at info@outlookers.org.uk
Please note: due to limited stock and staffing, contacting Medequip directly remains the quickest way to receive replacement equipment.
With clear access to support, residents across Kirklees can continue to live safely and independently—just a call, click, or visit away.
